Basic Chinese Sentence Order
Build reliable starter sentences by placing people, time, place, action, and object in a natural order.
Pattern
Subject + time/place + verb + object
Keep the core sentence steady before adding details.
我今天学习中文。
When to use Basic Chinese Sentence Order
Chinese does not need English-style helper verbs for simple statements. Start with the person or topic, put time before the verb, and keep the main action close to its object.
我在学校学习。
I study at school.
她今天学习汉语。
She studies Chinese today.
明天我们去北京。
Tomorrow we go to Beijing.
老师在教室说中文。
The teacher speaks Chinese in the classroom.
Common traps
- Do not copy English question or helping-verb order into plain statements.
- Put time words before the verb, not at the very end.
- Place words usually need 在 before the location.
