就 and 还是 for “Exactly” and “Still”
As mood adverbs, 就 stresses that something is exactly so (我就是王明), 还是 says something is still true in spite of what happened, and 都…了 means “already”.
문형
就 + 是 / 在 / verb (exactly) · 还是 + verb (still) · 都 + time + 了 (already)
These adverbs add the speaker’s feeling: 就 says “exactly this, right here”, 还是 says “still, even so”, 都…了 says “already, and that’s a lot”.
超市就在学校旁边。
When to use 就 and 还是 for “Exactly” and “Still”
Mood adverbs go before the verb and show how the speaker feels about a fact. 就, often before 是 or 在, stresses that something is exactly so: 我就是王明 (“I am Wang Ming, that’s me”), 超市就在前面 (“the supermarket is right ahead”). 还是 means “still”: something stays the same even after an effort or a change: 我问了老师,可是还是不懂. 都 + a time or amount + 了 means “already”, with the feeling that it is late or a lot: 都十点了.
我问了老师,可是还是不懂。
I asked the teacher, but I still don’t understand.
都十点了,你快睡觉吧。
It’s already ten o’clock, go to sleep.
这就是我的家。
This is my home, right here.
我就要这个,别的都不要。
This is the one I want; I don’t want any of the others.
