When to use 今天天气很好 for Sentences With a Second Subject

In a 主谓谓语句 (subject-predicate predicate sentence), what you say about the subject is itself a small sentence. The big subject names the person, thing, place or time you are talking about; the small subject names one part or side of it; and the adjective or verb describes that part: 今天 | 天气很好 (“today, the weather is good”), 他 | 个子很高 (“he is tall”), 我们学校 | 学生很多 (“our school has a lot of students”). English often needs “his”, “its” or “has” here; Chinese simply lines the two subjects up.

  • Put adverbs like 很, 不 and 也 right before the adjective: 他个子也很高.
  • Keep the part right before the adjective: say 他个子很高, not 他很高个子.
