When to use 赶紧, 赶快 and 忽然 for “Hurry” and “Suddenly”
赶紧 and 赶快 go right before the verb and mean “quickly, without wasting time.” They are about a person deciding to act fast, often because there is little time: 快下雨了,我们赶紧回家吧. They are common in requests (你赶快来!) and in stories (他赶紧站了起来). 忽然 also goes before the verb, but it means “suddenly”: something happens that nobody expected, like 外面忽然下起了大雨.
我们正在聊天,外面忽然下起了大雨。
We were chatting when it suddenly started pouring outside.
电影快开始了,你赶快过来!
The film is about to start, come over quickly!

ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
- Put 赶紧, 赶快 and 忽然 before the verb, not at the end: 我们赶紧走吧, not 我们走赶紧吧.
- 忽然 is only an adverb: say 这件事很突然, not 这件事很忽然.
- 赶紧 and 赶快 describe someone hurrying on purpose; for something unexpected that just happens, use 忽然 or 突然.
