HanyuGuide ("the Service") is a product operated by Enigma Byte, LLC ("Enigma Byte", "we", "us", or "our"). By accessing and using the Service, you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provisions of this agreement. In addition, when using the Service, you shall be subject to any posted guidelines or rules applicable to the Service. Any participation in the Service will constitute acceptance of this agreement.

Modification of Terms

We reserve the right to change, modify, or revise these Terms of Service at any time. Any changes made will be posted here. Your continued use of the Service following the posting of any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Description of Service

HanyuGuide provides interactive exercises to improve users' Chinese language skills. While we strive for accuracy and users are welcome to reach out to us with any concerns, we make no guarantees regarding the accuracy, completeness, or quality of any content found on the Service.

Mobile App and Subscriptions

These terms apply to the HanyuGuide website and mobile app. A HanyuGuide account is optional for on-device study. Paid study access requires an active subscription or other access explicitly provided by HanyuGuide. Connecting an account does not by itself create a paid subscription or transfer local study progress; the app provides a separate progress-transfer action.

For purchases made in the iOS app, Apple processes payment through your Apple Account. The purchase screen shows the plan, billing period, localized price, and any available introductory offer before you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled. If an eligible free trial is offered, it converts to the displayed paid subscription unless canceled in time. Apple advises canceling free or discounted trials at least 24 hours before they end. Eligibility and the terms shown by Apple at purchase apply.

You can manage or cancel an Apple subscription in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or use Manage subscription in HanyuGuide. Deleting the app or your HanyuGuide account does not cancel your subscription. Use Restore purchases in the app with the Apple Account used for the purchase to check existing purchase access. Restoring a purchase does not restore study progress that existed only on another phone.

Purchases made on the HanyuGuide website are processed by Stripe and include a 30-day money-back guarantee: you can request a full refund within 30 days of purchase by replying to your purchase confirmation email or contacting support. Refunds are limited to one per account. After a refund has been issued, later website purchases on the same account are not eligible for a refund, except where applicable consumer law requires otherwise. Your plan and any remaining refund period are shown in Settings under “Your plan”.

Refund requests for Apple-billed purchases are handled by Apple under its policies and applicable law. See Apple’s cancellation instructions and request a refund from Apple. HanyuGuide uses RevenueCat to validate and manage subscription access; RevenueCat does not replace Apple as the payment processor for App Store purchases.

Your use of the iOS app is also subject to the license terms shown in its App Store listing, including Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement where applicable. These service terms do not limit rights that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law.

Offline Use, Reminders, and Widgets

Downloaded vocabulary and audio support offline use, but account connection, online dictionary content, purchases, and some subscription checks require connectivity. Progress saved only on a device is not automatically backed up to a HanyuGuide account and may be lost if the app or its data is removed.

Study reminders and promotional notifications are optional, with separate controls in Settings. Notifications, widgets, and Live Activities depend on iOS permissions, system scheduling, and available data; they may not update immediately. The app may download compatible updates and pronunciation recordings over your current connection. Your network provider’s data charges may apply.

Unauthorized Use

You may not use the Service in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the Service or interfere with any other party's use and enjoyment of the Service. This includes but is not limited to the following: using automated scripts to interact with the Service, using the Service to send unsolicited messages, or using the Service to collect data for any purpose other than personal use.

User Responsibilities

Users are responsible for any content they post, share, or otherwise communicate while using the Service. Users agree not to use the Service for any unlawful purposes.

Classroom and Student Accounts

Educators who create or manage classroom dashboards represent that they are authorized by their school, tutoring practice, organization, parent or guardian relationship, or other applicable authority to invite students and provide student information to HanyuGuide. Educators are responsible for using appropriate student identifiers, for keeping temporary student login credentials private, and for removing access when a student should no longer participate.

Classroom-managed student accounts may use a username and password instead of an email address. Where an educator provides a school email address or other student information, the educator is responsible for having the right to provide that information and for following the policies that apply to their classroom or organization.

HanyuGuide applies automated content filtering to dictionary words, meanings and example sentences shown to students in classroom and organization accounts. Automated filtering can be wrong or incomplete. Educators are responsible for reviewing every word, meaning and example in a list or assignment before giving it to students, and for any hidden meanings they choose to show to their students.

Organizations that use HanyuGuide to create or manage student access are also covered by the Student Data Addendum. Student data may be used to provide and improve HanyuGuide's educational service, but not for targeted advertising, resale, unrelated commercial profiles, or direct marketing to classroom-managed students.

Under-13 Student Use

Students under 13 may use HanyuGuide only through access created or approved by an authorized educator, parent, guardian, tutoring provider, or organization. HanyuGuide does not knowingly allow under-13 students to create independent self-service accounts outside that authorized context.

Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or restrict access to the Service for any user without notice for any or no reason whatsoever.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied.

Limitation of Liability

Enigma Byte, LLC shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from the use or inability to use the Service.
