贵十块, 大两岁 for Adjective + Amount
To say by how much, put the amount right after the adjective: 贵十块 “ten yuan more expensive”, 大两岁 “two years older”, 晚了二十分钟 “twenty minutes late”.
Pola
(A 比 B) + adjective + number + measure word / 一点
The amount of difference comes after the adjective, never before it: 比我大两岁, 贵十块, 便宜一点.
他比我大两岁。
When to use 贵十块, 大两岁 for Adjective + Amount
An adjective can be followed by an amount that says how big the difference is. The amount is a number + measure word (大两岁, 贵十块, 晚二十分钟) or a small, vague amount: 一点 or 一些. It is very common in 比 sentences: 他比我大两岁 (“he is two years older than me”). It also works without 比 when the comparison is clear, and with 了 to say how much something has changed: 便宜了十块 (“ten yuan cheaper now”).
这本书比那本贵十块。
This book is ten yuan more expensive than that one.
火车晚了二十分钟。
The train was twenty minutes late.
太贵了,能便宜一点吗?
That’s too expensive. Can you make it a bit cheaper?
我的手表慢五分钟。
My watch is five minutes slow.
Kesalahan umum
- Put the amount after the adjective: 贵十块, not 十块贵.
- Don’t add 很 or 非常 before the adjective here: say 比那本贵十块, not 比那本很贵十块.
- 便宜一点 (a bit cheaper, after the adjective) is different from 有点儿贵 (a bit too expensive, before it).
