三楼, 二年级, 五号 for Order Without 第
For numbered things in a series, such as floors, school years, classes and dates, a number + unit word already shows order: 三楼 “the third floor”, 二年级 “second grade”.
Pola
number + 楼 / 层 / 年级 / 班 / 号 / 路 (order in a series)
With floors, school years, classes, dates and numbered things, 三楼 already means “the third floor”: no 第 and no 个.
我家住在三楼。
When to use 三楼, 二年级, 五号 for Order Without 第
You already know 第 + number for order: 第三 (third). But for things that belong to a fixed numbered series, Chinese usually just puts the number in front of the unit word: 三楼 (the third floor), 二年级 (second grade, year two), 三班 (Class 3), 五号 (the fifth, number five), 八路车 (the No. 8 bus). There is no 第 and no 个. Use 二, not 两, in these words: 二楼, 二年级. Room and phone numbers are read digit by digit: 302 is 三零二.
我弟弟上二年级。
My little brother is in second grade.
我是三班的学生。
I’m a student in Class 3.
我坐八路车去学校。
I take the No. 8 bus to school.
今天十月五号。
Today is October 5th.
Kesalahan umum
- Use 二, not 两, for order: say 二年级 and 二楼, not 两年级.
- Don’t add 个: 三班 means “Class 3”, but 三个班 means “three classes”.
- With ordinary measure words you still need 第: 第三本书 is “the third book”; 三本书 is “three books”.
