When to use 一个一个 and 一张一张 for “One by One”
Chinese can repeat a number + measure word to show that something happens one unit after another. The usual form is 一 + measure word + 一 + measure word, often followed by 地 and then the verb: 一个一个地进来 “come in one by one,” 一张一张地看 “look at them sheet by sheet.” The measure word must fit the noun, just as it does in 一张照片 or 一本书. With time and steps, the phrase shows slow, steady change: 一天一天 “day by day,” 一步一步 “step by step.” You can also use 两: 两个两个地 “two at a time.”

Kesalahan umum
- Repeat the same measure word, and choose the one that fits the noun: 一张一张 for photos, not 一张一个.
- Put the phrase before the verb: 一个一个地进来, not 进来一个一个.
- Don’t confuse 一个一个 “one by one” with 个个 “every one”; 个个 usually comes with 都.
