When to use Starter Double-Object Sentences
Read verb + person + thing as a sentence tool, not just as vocabulary. First locate the main action or claim, then ask what 给 adds to it.
妈妈给我一个苹果。
Mom gives me an apple.
请给我那支笔。
Please give me that pen.
Common traps
- Do not translate verb + person + thing mechanically from English; check the Chinese word order first.
- Keep 给 close to the part of the sentence it controls.
- Do not overuse the pattern in every sentence; use it when it adds a clear role.
