Exclamations with 太……了, 真 and 多……啊

太……了 needs both parts, and depending on context it means “so…!” or “too…”.

When to use Exclamations with 太……了, 真 and 多……啊
Put 太 before an adjective and 了 at the end to make an exclamation: 太好了！ “Great!”, 今天太冷了！ “It’s so cold today!”. You need both parts. Context decides the meaning: with good things it’s praise (“so…!”), with a problem it means “too…”: 这件衣服太贵了 “this piece of clothing is too expensive”.

这件衣服太贵了，我不买。
This piece of clothing is too expensive, so I won’t buy it.
你太好了！
You’re so kind!

This dish is really delicious!
よくある間違い
- Don’t drop 了: say 太好了！, not 太好！
- 太大了 often means “too big”, a problem; to say something is simply big, use 很大.
- A plain 真 exclamation needs no 了: say 真好吃！, not 真好吃了！
