When to use 选/收 + Person + 当/做/为 for “Choose Someone As”
This is another pivot sentence: the middle person is the object of 选 or 收, and also the one who takes the role after 当/做/为. 选 means choose or elect: 大家选他当班长 (everyone chose him as class monitor). 收 means accept someone into a group or as a student: 王老师收他做学生. The role word comes last. Use 当 or 做 in speech; 为 (pronounced wéi) sounds formal and fits notices and reports: 我们班选李明为代表.
