문형

连 + A + 带 + B

With nouns, 连A带B means “A and B together, both included”; with verbs, it paints someone doing A and B at the same time.

When to use 连A带B for “A and B Together”

Put one word after 连 and another after 带. With two nouns, the pattern bundles them into one lot: 连菜带饭 means “the dishes and the rice together.” The sentence usually goes on with 一共, 都 or 一起 to sum up the whole lot.

흔한 실수

  • Keep both halves: say 连说带笑, not 连说又笑 or 连说笑.
  • Here 连 means “together with,” not “even”; its partner is 带. A 都 after the pattern only sums up the whole lot (连人带伞都湿透了).
  • When the pattern describes how the main action is done, 地 usually links it to the main verb: 连蹦带跳地跑出来.
