When to use 务必, 势必, 万万 and 分明: Adverbs of Certainty and Insistence
These adverbs go before the verb and show how sure or how firm the speaker is. Firm requests: 务必 “be sure to” (请务必准时); 切 “by all means” in written warnings, with a negative (切不可, 切记); 万万 “absolutely” with a negative (万万不能, 万万没想到). Sure predictions: 必定 “certainly” (必定能成功); 必将 “will surely”, formal and about the future (必将带来方便); 势必 “is bound to”, for a result that follows unavoidably from a cause (势必影响学习). Facts: 分明 “clearly, obviously”, when the truth is plain but someone denies it; 果真 “really, just as said or expected”; 终究 “in the end, after all” (终究会解决, 终究还是个孩子).

흔한 실수
- 务必 is for requests and instructions (请务必…); for a prediction, use 必定 or 势必.
- 万万 and 切 go with a negative: 万万不能, 切不可; don’t say 万万要来.
- 分明 suggests the truth is obvious but someone denies it; it isn’t a neutral “clearly” for explaining.
