Number + 来 + Measure Word for “About Ten,” “Twenty-Odd”
Put 来 between a round number and the measure word, as in 十来个人 or 三十来岁, to say “about, roughly.”
문형
round number (十, 二十, 一百…) + 来 + measure word + noun
来 after a round number means “about, roughly”: 十来个人 is about ten people, 三十来岁 is about thirty years old. It goes between the number and the measure word, and is used with numbers like 十, 二十, 五十, 一百.
教室里有二十来个学生。
When to use Number + 来 + Measure Word for “About Ten,” “Twenty-Odd”
In this pattern, 来 is not the verb “come.” It sits between a round number and a measure word and makes the number approximate: 二十来个学生 (about twenty students), 三十来岁 (around thirty years old), 一百来块 (a hundred-odd yuan). The number is usually a whole ten, hundred or thousand: 十, 二十, 五十, 一百, 一千. The exact amount may be a little more or a little less.
他看起来三十来岁。
He looks about thirty.
这本书一百来块钱。
This book costs about a hundred yuan.
我们等了十来分钟。
We waited about ten minutes.
我们班有四十来个同学。
There are about forty students in our class.
