Use 视……而定 in formal Chinese to say a decision depends on something, as in 视天气情况而定, “depending on the weather.”

视……而定 means “will be decided according to …”: the thing before it depends on the condition inside.

When to use 视...而定 for “Depending On …”

视 is a formal word for 看, 而 links two parts, and 定 means “to decide.” So 视X而定 means “decided by looking at X,” or simply “depending on X.” The pattern usually ends the sentence.

每组的人数视报名情况而定。

The number of people in each group will depend on how many sign up.

具体出发时间视大家的安排而定。

The exact departure time will depend on everyone’s schedules.
