Use （你）说到哪儿去了 to politely brush off thanks, apologies, praise or a wrong guess.

说到哪儿去了 rejects what someone just said in a friendly way: “Not at all!” or “What are you talking about?”

A：太麻烦你了，真不好意思。B：你说到哪儿去了，我们是好朋友嘛。

When to use 说到哪儿去了 for “Not at All!”

Literally “where has your talk gone to?”, this reply tells the other person they have gone too far. It politely rejects thanks, apologies, praise or a wrong guess: “Not at all!” or “What are you talking about?”

  • Keep 去: 说到哪儿去了 brushes off what someone said; 说到哪儿了 asks where the talk stopped.
  • It is a friendly rejection, so follow it with the real situation (我们是朋友嘛, 我没生气).
  • It is informal; with a teacher or boss, 不客气 or 哪里哪里 is safer.
