When to use Dates with 年, 月, 号 and 星期

A Chinese date goes from the biggest unit to the smallest: year 年, month 月, day 号, then weekday: 二〇二六年十月九号,星期五. Months are just number + 月 (一月 “January” to 十二月 “December”), and days are number + 号. Weekdays are 星期 + 一 to 六 for Monday to Saturday, and Sunday is 星期天 or 星期日.

我的生日是五月二十号。

My birthday is May 20.

我二〇二五年去过中国。

I went to China in 2025.

明天星期六,我们不上课。

Tomorrow is Saturday, so we don’t have class.

  • Go from big to small: 十月九号, not 九号十月.
  • Sunday is 星期天 or 星期日, never 星期七.
  • Put the date before the verb: 我星期六去北京, not 我去北京星期六.
