要是...,就... for Everyday “If … Then …”
Use 要是 as a spoken “if,” often with 的话 after the condition and 就 before the result.
Pola
要是 means “if” and is more conversational than 如果. The result clause usually has 就, placed after its subject. 的话 at the end of the condition is optional and makes it sound even more natural.
When to use 要是...,就... for Everyday “If … Then …”
要是 introduces a condition: 要是明天下雨 (if it rains tomorrow). The result clause follows, with 就 before the verb: 我们就不去公园了. 就 always comes after the subject of the result clause, never before it. 要是 can come before or after the subject of its own clause: 要是你累了 or 你要是累了. You can add 的话 at the end of the condition: 要是有问题的话,就给我打电话.
If you’re tired, take a little rest.
If you have any problems, give me a call.
If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have come.
If you have time, come over to my place.
Kesalahan umum
- Put 就 after the subject of the result clause: 我就去, not 就我去.
- Don’t use 要是 for “whether”: “I don’t know whether he’ll come” is 我不知道他来不来.
- 要是 is spoken; in formal writing, 如果 or 假如 fits better.
