Pola
Subject + 因 + cause + 而 + result (verb phrase)
因 introduces the cause and 而 leads into what happened because of it, all in one clause and without a comma. It is formal and written.
比赛因下雨而推迟了。
When to use 因……而…… for “Because of …, (Something Happens)”
因……而…… puts a cause and its result into one compact clause. 因 (a short, written form of 因为) introduces the cause, which is usually a noun phrase or a short verb phrase. 而 then leads straight into the result: 比赛因下雨而推迟了 “The match was postponed because of rain.” The subject normally comes first, and there is no comma between the cause and the result, unlike 因为……,所以…….

Kesalahan umum
- Don’t put a comma or 所以 inside the pattern: 比赛因下雨而推迟, not 比赛因下雨,所以推迟.
- 因 gives a cause; for a purpose (“in order to”), use 为……而…… instead.
- It is written style. In a chat, 因为下雨,比赛推迟了 sounds more natural.
