哪怕...也... and 就算...也... for “Even If”
哪怕 and 就算 introduce an “even if” situation, and 也 in the second clause says the result stays the same.
문형
哪怕 / 就算 + (extreme) situation,(subject +) 也 + unchanged result
哪怕 and 就算 both mean “even if.” The first clause imagines a situation, often an extreme or unlikely one, and the second clause, with 也, says the result will not change. 哪怕 often stresses determination; 就算 is very common in speech. 即使 is the more formal word.
哪怕下大雨,我们也要按时出发。
When to use 哪怕...也... and 就算...也... for “Even If”
Put 哪怕 or 就算 at the start of the first clause, then 也 after the subject of the second clause: 哪怕下大雨,我们也要按时出发. The first clause names a situation that might make you change your plan, and the second says you won’t. 哪怕 often goes with “only a little”: 哪怕只有一点儿希望. 就算 often goes with 再: 就算再忙.

哪怕少睡一会儿,我也要把作业写完。
Even if I have to sleep a bit less, I’m going to finish my homework.
흔한 실수
