Time Since an Action: 来中国三年了
Say how long it has been since something happened, as in 他来中国三年了 and 我们下课十分钟了.

With one-off verbs like 来 or 毕业, the time after the verb counts from when it happened: 来中国三年了 = “came to China three years ago”.
他来中国三年了。
When to use Time Since an Action: 来中国三年了
With verbs for one-off actions such as 来, 走, 下课 or 毕业, a time phrase after the verb doesn’t say how long the action lasted. It says how much time has passed since it happened: 他来中国三年了 “It’s been three years since he came to China.” The object goes right after the verb, then the time, and a 了 at the end shows the time is still counting up to now. 已经 is often added before the verb.
我哥哥大学毕业两年了。
My older brother graduated from university two years ago.
电影已经开始十分钟了。
The film started ten minutes ago.
他走了半个小时了。
He left half an hour ago.

- With one-off verbs, the object comes before the time: 他来中国三年了, not 他来三年中国了.
- Keep the final 了 when the time is still counting: 我毕业两年了 is a complete sentence, but 我毕业两年 sounds unfinished.
- In the negative, the time comes before 没: 我两年没回家了, not 我没回家两年了.
