When to use Enabled Results with 得以

得以 marks that something was able to happen because a condition, support, or opportunity made it possible.

这些传统通过教育得以保留。

These traditions were preserved through education.

问题解决后，项目得以继续。

After the problem was solved, the project was able to continue.

新的方法使效率得以提高。

The new method enabled efficiency to improve.

资料公开后，研究得以推进。

After the materials were made public, the research was able to move forward.

Common traps

  • 得以 is formal; avoid it for casual “can” sentences.
  • It usually follows a condition that enables the result.
  • The result after 得以 should be meaningful, not trivial.
