Pola
subject + 虽 + fact,但 / 可 + clause | (subject +) 却 / 也 + verb
虽 means “although” like 虽然, but it is more written and compact. It normally comes after the subject (他虽年轻), often before a short adjective without 很. The second clause turns with 但 or 可 at the start, or with 却 or 也 after its subject.

When to use 虽...,但/可/却/也... for Written “Although”
Put 虽 right after the subject of the first clause: 他虽年轻, 这家饭馆虽小, 路虽远. A one-syllable adjective often follows directly, without 很. The second clause shows the contrast in one of two ways. 但 and 可 come at the very start of the clause, before any subject: 但经验很丰富. 却 and 也 are adverbs, so they go after the subject and right before the verb or adjective: 菜却很好吃, 我们也学到了很多.
这家饭馆虽小,菜却很好吃。
This restaurant may be small, but the food is delicious.
这个问题虽不大,也要认真对待。
Although this problem isn’t big, it still needs to be taken seriously.
路虽远,可大家一点儿也不觉得累。
Although the road was long, nobody felt tired at all.
他虽是第一次参加比赛,却表现得很好。
Although it was his first competition, he performed very well.
Kesalahan umum
- Put 虽 after the subject: 他虽年轻, not 虽他年轻.
- Put 却 after the subject of the second clause: 菜却很好吃, not 却菜很好吃.
- 虽 is written style; in casual speech say 虽然.
