When to use 不但...而且...
不但 introduces the first point. 而且 adds a second point, often stronger, more surprising, or more important.
这家店服务好，而且离地铁站近。
This shop has good service and is also near the subway station.
这件衣服不但好看，而且质量不错。
This piece of clothing is not only nice-looking, its quality is also good.
他不但会说中文，而且写得很好。
He not only can speak Chinese, but also writes very well.

Common traps
- 而且 should add a real second point, not repeat the first.
- The second point often carries more weight.
- Do not mix 不但 with 但是 unless you are deliberately changing direction.
