รูปแบบประโยค

subject + 不但不 / 不但没(有)+ expected result,反而 + opposite result

雨不但没停,反而越下越大了。

When to use 不但不/没有...,反而... for “Not Only Not …, But Instead …”

The first clause is negative: 不但不 for habits, wishes and general facts, 不但没(有) for things that did not happen. The second clause gives the opposite of what was expected, with 反而 after its subject and before the verb. 雨不但没停,反而越下越大了 “not only did the rain not stop, it got heavier.”

ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย

  • After a negative first clause with an opposite result, use 反而, not 而且: 雨不但没停,反而越下越大.
  • Put 反而 after the subject and before the verb: 他反而笑了, not 反而他笑了.
  • Use 没(有) for something that didn’t happen and 不 for general facts or wishes.
