把 Sentences: 把 + Object + Verb + 在/到 or Result

Use 把 to say what you do to something: where you put it (放在, 送到) or how it ends up (写完, 关上, 打扫得很干净).

Patrón

subject + 把 + object + verb + 在/到 + place; subject + 把 + object + verb + result / direction / 得 + state

In a 把 sentence the verb never ends the sentence alone: something must say where the object went or how it ended up.

我把车停在楼下了。

When to use 把 Sentences: 把 + Object + Verb + 在/到 or Result

把 moves a specific, known object in front of the verb so the sentence can focus on what happens to it: subject + 把 + object + verb + more. When the object ends up somewhere, put 在 or 到 + place right after the verb: 把书放在桌子上 “put the book on the table”, 把我送到机场 “take me to the airport”. The verb cannot stand alone at the end of a 把 sentence.

请把你的名字写在这儿。

Please write your name here.

你把这些椅子搬到教室里吧。

Could you move these chairs into the classroom?

爸爸把我送到了机场。

Dad took me to the airport.

我已经把作业写完了。

I’ve already finished my homework. (result: 完)

Errores frecuentes

  • The verb can’t end a 把 sentence alone: say 我把作业写完了, not 我把作业写.
  • Put 没, 不 and 要 before 把: 我没把伞带来, not 我把伞没带来.
  • When the object ends up somewhere, put 在/到 + place after the verb: 把书放在桌子上, not 把书在桌子上放.
