Connectors 可见, 总之, 假如 and 从而

可见 is what you conclude from the facts; 从而 is what the action led to; 总之 wraps it all up.

When to use Connectors 可见, 总之, 假如 and 从而
可见 starts the second clause and gives a conclusion you draw from the fact in the first clause: “…, which shows that…”. The first part is the evidence, the part after 可见 is your judgement. 总之 “in short” starts a final sentence that sums up everything said before, often after a list of reasons or details.
这么晚了他还没回家，可见今天工作特别忙。
It’s so late and he still isn’t home, so work must be really busy today.
天气不好，酒店也一般，总之，这次旅行不太顺利。
The weather was bad and the hotel was just OK; in short, the trip didn’t go very well.
你去也好，不去也好，总之要早点告诉我。
Whether you go or not, just let me know early.
假如明天下雨，我们就改天再去。
If it rains tomorrow, we’ll go another day.
Errores frecuentes
- Say 他病了，所以没来上课, not 他病了，可见没来上课: 可见 introduces what you conclude from evidence, not a result.
- Don’t use 从而 for everyday reasons: say 下雨了，所以我没去, not 下雨了，从而我没去. 从而 is for an action that leads to a result.
- Put 就 after the subject: 假如下雨，我们就不去了, not 假如下雨，就我们不去了.
