Use 把...当作 and 把...看作 for advanced categorization sentences.

When to use Treating Something As with 把...当作

当作 and 看作 both mean treating or seeing something as something else. 把 makes the object being reinterpreted clear.

我们把反馈看作改进的依据。

We regard feedback as a basis for improvement.

她把帮助别人当作自己的责任。

She treats helping others as her responsibility.

不要把沉默看作同意。

Do not treat silence as agreement.

我把这段经历当作新的开始。

I treat this experience as a new beginning.

Common traps

  • 当作 is often more concrete; 看作 can sound more analytical.
  • Do not forget the object after 把.
  • The role after 当作/看作 should be a noun phrase.
