When to use Advanced 把 and 被 Sentences

At HSK 4, 把 and 被 often combine with result complements, directional complements, and formal affected meanings. The sentence should say what happened to the object.

这个问题已经被解决了。

This problem has already been solved.

我们把问题解决了。

We solved the problem.

他把文件发给我了。

He sent the document to me.

计划被突然改变了。

The plan was suddenly changed.

Common traps

  • 把 still needs a definite object and meaningful result.
  • 被 without an agent is common in formal Chinese.
  • Do not force 把/被 into sentences where normal word order is clearer.
