When to use 别提(有)多...了 for “You Can’t Imagine How …”

别提 literally means “don’t mention it,” but in this pattern it means “it’s so … that there’s no point even trying to describe it.” Put 多 (how) and an adjective after it, and close with 了: 别提多高兴了, “you can’t imagine how happy.”

Common traps

  • Use 多 before the adjective, not 很 or 太: 别提多高兴了, not 别提很高兴了.
  • End with 了; without it the sentence sounds unfinished.
  • Don’t read 别提 literally here; it doesn’t tell anyone to stop talking.
