说A就A for Acting Without Hesitation
Use 说A就A, as in 说走就走 and 说变就变, to say someone acts the moment they decide, or that something happens in an instant.
Pattern
说 + verb + 就 + same verb
No gap between the word and the deed: 说走就走 is leaving the moment you decide to go.
天气说变就变,你带把伞吧。
When to use 说A就A for Acting Without Hesitation
Put the same verb after 说 and after 就: 说走就走, 说干就干, 说变就变. The pattern means there is no gap at all between mentioning an action and doing it. About people, it describes acting decisively or on impulse (他说走就走); about things like weather, it means something happens suddenly, without warning (天气说变就变). Here 说 doesn’t mean anyone actually said anything.
他这个人说走就走,昨天已经去云南了。
He’s the type to just up and leave; he already went to Yunnan yesterday.
我们说干就干,今天就开始。
Let’s get straight to it and start today.
这孩子说哭就哭。
This kid can burst into tears at any moment.
我一直想来一次说走就走的旅行。
I’ve always wanted to take a spontaneous trip.
Common traps
- Repeat the same verb: 说走就走, not 说走就去.
- For two different events in a row, use 一……就……: 他一下课就走 “he leaves as soon as class ends”. 说A就A always repeats one verb.
- Keep 就 in the middle: 说干就干, not 说干干 or 说干也干.
