Plural Pronouns with 们
Add 们 to 我, 你, 他 and 她 to say “we”, “you all” and “they”, and know when 们 can follow a word for people.
Pattern
pronoun + 们 (我们, 你们, 他们, 她们, 它们); people noun + 们 (同学们)
们 makes a pronoun plural, but never follows a number: 我们, 三个学生.
我们是学生。
When to use Plural Pronouns with 们
Put 们 (said lightly, men) after a personal pronoun to make it plural: 我 → 我们 “we/us”, 你 → 你们 “you all”, 他 → 他们 “they”. The pronoun stays the same as subject or object: 我们认识他们, 他们认识我们. Use 他们 for men or a mixed group, and 她们 only when everyone is female.
你们好!
Hello, everyone! (to a group)
他们都在家。
They’re all at home.
我们学校很大。
Our school is big. (no 的 before a group you belong to)
同学们,早上好!
Good morning, everyone! (a teacher to the class)
Common traps
- Say 三个学生, not 三个学生们: after a number, don’t add 们.
- Say 这些书, not 书们: 们 is only for people (and the pronoun 它们).
- Call a group of boys and girls 他们, not 她们: 她们 means everyone in the group is female.
