What Does 666 Mean in Chinese? Praise, Skill and Irony
In Chinese internet comments, 666 commonly responds to something skillful or impressive: roughly “nice,” “well played” or “that was smooth.” It does not carry the same default association it may have for an English-speaking reader. It is also not a complete translation for every possible use of the number.
Read the digits, then read the situation
As separate digits, 六六六 is liù liù liù. The slang is associated with 溜 (liù), describing smooth or practiced skill. That sound connection helps you remember the expression, but it does not mean that every appearance of six is slang. In a price, room number or verification code, use the literal reading required by the situation.
A string such as 66666 usually intensifies the reaction rather than changing the underlying meaning. Do not read it as a precise rating or a fixed number of compliments. Online spelling is expressive and flexible.
When the praise is sincere
A teammate wins a difficult round, someone edits a clever video, or a friend solves a technical problem: these provide a visible reason for praise. A bare 666 is fast and casual. 太厉害了 gives a fuller spoken response and is easier for people unfamiliar with the code to understand.

When it may be sarcastic
After someone misses an obvious goal or creates a needless problem, the same positive-looking reaction can be teasing or critical. You cannot reliably decide from the digits alone. Look at what happened immediately before, whether the people know each other and the rest of the message.
A learner does not need to become fluent in sarcasm first. If you want sincere praise, say what you admired. If you are unsure whether someone is mocking you, asking “你是说真的吗？” (nǐ shì shuō zhēn de ma, do you really mean that?) is clearer than replying with another ambiguous code.
