Chinese Résumé and Interview Language: Describe Your Experience
简历 (jiǎn lì) is a common Mainland Chinese term for a résumé; 履历 (lǚ lì) is also used, especially in other regional contexts. A useful résumé makes your relevant experience easy to understand. This lesson teaches the language for describing that experience, not a universal template or a promise of employment.
Common headings and relevant details
教育背景 means educational background. 工作经历 means work experience. 技能 means skills, and 项目经历 describes project experience. 求职意向 expresses the type of position sought. An employer may ask for a particular format, so read the actual application instructions.
Older templates can include personal details that are not necessary for every job or region. Do not copy all fields automatically. Select information relevant to the role and the application requirements rather than treating one sample as a universal standard.
Dates and titles should be consistent. If you translate a job title, choose wording that accurately describes your responsibility rather than upgrading its seniority. A brief explanation can be better than an impressive but misleading title.
Use an action and a concrete result
负责 introduces responsibility. 参与 says you participated; 协助 says you assisted. These verbs distinguish leading work from contributing to it. 完成 means complete, 改进 improve, and 整理 organize or put in order.
When a result can be quantified honestly, include the relevant measure and period. Do not invent a percentage merely because résumé advice favors numbers. If the result was shared, describe your contribution rather than claiming the entire team’s work.
负责整理客户反馈,并协助改进使用说明。
Fù zé zhěng lǐ kè hù fǎn kuì, bìng xié zhù gǎi jìn shǐ yòng shuō míng.
参与网站更新,主要负责内容检查。
Cān yù wǎng zhàn gēng xīn, zhǔ yào fù zé nèi róng jiǎn chá.
The wording specifies the contribution without claiming to have built the whole site.
Turn a résumé line into an interview answer
“请简单介绍一下自己” asks you to introduce yourself briefly. A useful answer connects your recent experience to the work under discussion. You do not need to recite every detail from the document.
Use a small sequence: the situation, your responsibility, the action and the result. “当时……” sets the context; “所以……” explains a consequence. Be prepared for follow-up questions about what you personally did.
If you do not understand a question, “不好意思,您能换个说法吗?” asks the interviewer to rephrase. That is more useful than answering a question you guessed incorrectly.
Describe language ability in tasks
“我能用中文处理简单的邮件” means you can handle simple emails in Chinese. This is more informative than calling yourself fluent without explaining what you can do. Mention an exam result accurately if it is relevant, with the test and date.
Practice one answer aloud, then answer an unexpected follow-up. A memorized introduction is a starting point; the real skill is responding clearly when the interviewer changes the question.

How to use these words
参与
参与 means taking part. It is useful when describing a project you contributed to without claiming sole responsibility for it. Contrast 参与, 协助 and 负责: participating, assisting and being responsible make different claims. Choose the one that matches your work, then name what you actually did. A specific, modest sentence is stronger than an inflated title you cannot explain in an interview.
我参与了客户反馈的整理工作。
Wǒ cān yù le kè hù fǎn kuì de zhěng lǐ gōng zuò.
The sentence identifies a contribution without claiming leadership.
改进
改进 describes making something better, such as a process or method. A résumé claim becomes clearer when you explain what changed and how you know it helped. Do not invent numbers to make an example sound impressive. If you lack a measured result, describe a verifiable change in the work instead, such as reducing repeated steps or making responsibilities clearer.
我们改进了处理客户反馈的流程。
Wǒ men gǎi jìn le chǔ lǐ kè hù fǎn kuì de liú chéng.
An interview follow-up can ask what changed and what your own contribution was.
Check your understanding
Choose an answer or say your own response before opening the explanation.
You assisted a team leader but did not lead the project. Which is more accurate: 领导整个项目 or 协助项目负责人?
Show answer and explanation
协助项目负责人: assisted the project lead. Choose the verb that matches your actual role.
Replace a vague “my Chinese is very good” with a task you can perform.
Show answer and explanation
For example: 我能用中文安排会议。 (Wǒ néng yòng Zhōng wén ān pái huì yì.) “I can arrange meetings in Chinese.” Use a task you can actually handle.
Common questions
Can I use the same résumé wording everywhere?
Not automatically. Terminology and hiring expectations vary by region, employer and role. The language here helps describe experience; the application’s actual instructions determine what information to include.
How should I describe my Chinese level without exaggerating?
Name tasks you can perform, such as handling a simple call, reading routine emails or discussing a project with clarification. If you list a test result, give the test and score accurately rather than inventing a broad level equivalence.
