When to use Question Words
Chinese question words replace the missing answer directly. If the answer is a person, use 谁 in the person slot; if the answer is a place, use 哪里 in the place slot.
老师在哪里？
Where is the teacher?
谁是你的朋友？
Who is your friend?
这个多少钱？
How much is this?
你怎么去学校？
How do you go to school?
Common traps
- Do not add 吗 after a question word.
- Keep the question word in the answer slot.
- Use 多少 for amount or price, not for a place.
