让你X你就X for “Just Do as You’re Told”
Repeat the same verb in 让/叫你 + X + 你就 + X to tell someone firmly to do what they were asked, without arguing.
Pattern
让/叫 + 你 + verb X, 你 + 就 + verb X
The speaker repeats the same verb: “If I tell you to X, then just X.” It sounds firm and a bit impatient, and is typical of parents, teachers or friends who don’t want more questions.
让你去你就去,别问那么多。
When to use 让你X你就X for “Just Do as You’re Told”
The first half, 让你X or 叫你X, repeats the request (“I’m telling you to X”). The second half, 你就X, uses 就 plus the same verb to say “so just do it.” The two X’s must be the same verb or verb phrase: 让你去你就去, 叫你等你就等. The speaker could be the person who made the request, or someone repeating another person’s request: 妈妈叫你早点睡你就早点睡.
妈妈叫你早点睡你就早点睡。
Mom told you to go to bed early, so just go to bed early.
老师叫你读你就读,大声点儿。
The teacher told you to read, so read, and a bit louder.
叫你等你就等,他马上就来。
You were told to wait, so wait. He’ll be here soon.
让你休息你就休息吧,工作明天再做。
If you’re told to rest, just rest. The work can wait until tomorrow.
Common traps
- Use the same verb in both halves: 让你去你就去, not 让你去你就走.
- Don’t drop 就; it carries the meaning “then just do it.”
- The pattern can sound bossy; use it with people you know well, or soften it with 吧 and a reason.
