When to use 你X你的吧 for “Go Ahead, Don’t Mind Me”
Say the person, a verb, and then the person again with 的: 你忙你的, 你吃你的. The second 你的 means “your own business” or “what you were doing,” and 吧 makes it a gentle suggestion.
你们聊你们的,我去做饭。
You all keep chatting. I’ll go cook.
你吃你的吧,不用等我。
Go ahead and eat. Don’t wait for me.
你看你的书吧,我不打扰你了。
Go on reading your book. I won’t bother you.
别人都在聊天,他写他的作业,一句话也不说。
Everyone else was chatting, but he kept doing his homework without saying a word.
Common traps
- Use the same person twice: 你忙你的, not 你忙我的.
- Keep 的 after the second pronoun: 你忙你的, not 你忙你.
- Without 吧 and with a sharp tone, it can sound cold; add 吧 to keep it friendly.
