The frame points to one thing, 它, as the answer to two different, often opposite descriptions, usually two results it causes.
这只小猫，让我开心的是它，让我着急的也是它。
When to use X是它，Y也是它 for “It’s Behind Both”
First name the thing you are talking about: a pet, a phone, the weather, a job. Then describe two results with 的 phrases, such as 让我开心的 “the thing that makes me happy” and 让我着急的 “the thing that makes me worried,” and say both are 它.
我的手机啊，帮我学习的是它，浪费我时间的也是它。
My phone helps me study, and it’s also what wastes my time.
这场大雪，让我们出不了门的是它，让我们看到美景的也是它。
This heavy snow kept us from going out, and it also gave us a beautiful view.
说到这份工作，让我累的是它，让我成长的也是它。
As for this job, it’s what tires me out, and it’s also what has helped me grow.
这本书，让我哭的是它，让我笑的也是它。
This book made me cry, and it also made me laugh.
Common traps
- Name the thing first; 它 has to point back to something already mentioned.
- Put 也 only in the second half: …是它，…也是它.
- Make the two halves different results; repeating the same result loses the point.
