Starter Aspect and Word Order

Contrast 了, 过, 着, 都, and 也 in short reusable patterns.

Recognize two early uses of 了: completed actions and new situations.

他买了票。

He bought the ticket.

了 highlights the completed event.

你去过北京吗？

Have you been to Beijing?

Verb + 过 asks about experience.

门开着，我们进去吧。

The door is open; let us go in.

着 highlights a continuing state.

除了这本书，其他书我都看过。

Except for this book, I have read all the others.

都 helps show the rest of the set.
