不见得、绝不、无从、无须、无可、勿 for Formal Negatives

Six HSK 7–9 negative adverbs: 不见得 “not necessarily”, 绝不 “never”, 无从 “no way to”, 无须 “no need to”, 无可 “nothing can” and 勿 “do not”.

Pattern

不见得 / 绝不 / 无从 / 无须 / 无可 / 勿 + verb

Each adds a precise kind of “not”: not necessarily, absolutely not, no way to, no need to, nothing can, do not.

When to use 不见得、绝不、无从、无须、无可、勿 for Formal Negatives

不见得 means “not necessarily” and softly disagrees; it works in speech too and can even stand alone as a reply. 绝不 means “absolutely not, never” and shows a firm decision or rule.

贵的东西不见得就好。

Expensive things aren’t necessarily good.

无论遇到什么困难,我绝不放弃。

Whatever difficulties I meet, I will never give up.

Common traps

  • 勿 is for notices and requests: write 请勿拍照, but in speech say 别拍照.
  • 无须 means “no need”, 无从 means “no way”: don’t swap them.
  • 无可 only works in set phrases like 无可替代; don’t attach it to any verb.

Targeted drill

Practice this exact pattern before moving on.
