看把你X得 and 看你X的 for “Look How … You Are!”

Use 看/瞧把你高兴得 or 看你高兴的 to comment, often teasingly, on how a feeling shows on someone.

Pattern

看 / 瞧 + 把 + person + X + 得! / 看 / 瞧 + person + X + 的!

Both forms are exclamations about how clearly someone shows a state X (happy, worried, tired); the result is left unsaid.

看把你高兴得!不就是考了一百分吗?

When to use 看把你X得 and 看你X的 for “Look How … You Are!”

看把你高兴得! literally means “Look how happy it has made you!” The person after 把 is the one feeling X, and the sentence stops at 得 without saying “happy to what degree.” The listener fills that in from the situation.

瞧把孩子累得,一上车就睡着了。

Look how tired the child is. He fell asleep as soon as he got in the car.

看把他急得,一直在门口走来走去。

Look how worried he is, pacing back and forth at the door.

看你高兴的!有什么好事?

Look how happy you are! What’s the good news?

看你急的,飞机还有两个小时才起飞呢。

Look how worried you are. The plane doesn’t take off for another two hours.

Common traps

  • Use 把, not 被: 看把你高兴得, not 看被你高兴得.
  • Textbooks write the 把 form with 得 (看把你高兴得) and the short form with 的 (看你高兴的).
  • Start with 看 or 瞧; without the “look” verb, 把你高兴得 sounds unfinished.

Practice this exact pattern before moving on.
