When to use Basic Result Complements
Result complements like 完, 到, 见, and 懂 describe what the action achieved. They attach directly to the verb.
我看见老师了。
I saw the teacher.
你听懂了吗?
Did you understand what you heard?
他找到手机了。
He found the phone.
我没看懂这个字。
I did not understand this character by looking.
Common traps
- Do not separate the complement far from the verb.
- Result complements can change the meaning more than a simple adverb.
- Use 没 for a result that did not happen.
