When to use Passive Nuance with 被, 让, and 给

被 is the standard passive marker. 让 can sound more conversational and often emphasizes being affected. 给 can be colloquial in some regions and contexts.

Common traps

  • Do not force a passive marker into every English passive sentence.
  • 给 as a passive marker is colloquial and not always suitable for formal writing.
