Advanced result complements show success, clarity, correctness, discovery, or completion. They often carry the most important meaning in the verb phrase.

你看错时间了。

You looked at the time wrong.

我想出来一个办法。

I thought of a method.

请你说清楚。

Please say it clearly.

我听错了你的名字。

I misheard your name.

Common traps

  • The complement can be more important than the base verb.
  • Negation often uses 没 before the verb-complement phrase.
  • Do not translate every complement literally as a separate word.
